It happened for Anna in a coffee shop.
Coffee had become a way of life; a way of saying, now my day begins for Anna. The barista was blonde and friendly, hair a little longer than most would like but soft and welcoming. There was no offense in him. He lived life with an open heart. It became her daily routine, grab a coffee, connect to wifi, stay for 3 hours and head home for lunch. It was one of the perks of working from home. A way of feeling connected and fighting the isolation blues. In some ways, we are all connected, like a large breathing organism.
When she entered the shop, she immediately felt what others experienced coming in, community; it was this sense of belonging that brought her in daily. Isn’t it true, we are all looking for authentic connection. Sure it was mostly pleasantries from other patrons but some times that is all a girl’s heart can handle.
His name was Jake, daily he met her with his warm smile and her familiar order. She rarely changed it up. We are all creatures of habit.
For Anna longing to belong was her deepest desire. She had suffered a life of regret and was learning to be kind to herself and others in this process of finding freedom. She was haunted at times by her yesterdays but she possessed an inner strength that said being a casualty was not how her story was going to end. She had found books and teachers that opened her eyes to new possibilities. She longed to fully trust again; to feel that divine, heavenly connection from one to another but there were walls built to protect her tender heart. Many of us have built such walls.
Anna worked daily on removing the rubble blocking her from walking in the life she dreamt of, coming to the café encouraged her on her journey. She spoke words of life over her situations, was drawn to people who also journeyed with open hearts and was awakened to see the beauty that surrounded her. It was a beauty that had always existed but had become muddied by pain.
This is a piece inspired by Anna, Believe in Second Chances.
Will you have the courage to walk out your own healing journey?
Peace, Kate
